Obesity and bioelectrical impedance analysis
What is obesity?
Obesity is a chronic condition characterized by an excess of fat mass responsible for numerous clinical complications such as type II diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and musculoskeletal disorders. According to the WHO, in 2022, 16% of adults and 20% of children worldwide were living with obesity, and this figure could increase by 1.5 times by 2030, posing a major global public health challenge.
Managing obesity may involve a wide range of approaches depending on the level of obesity and the individual’s profile: surgical options, drug therapy, lifestyle counseling, psychological support… all of which require nutritional and physical activity recommendations.
In this context, regular body composition assessment is a key element in obesity management, allowing for:

- to assess body composition, including fat mass, fat-free mass, and skeletal muscle mass, in order to guide and tailor care to the patients’ needs.
- to monitor the effectiveness of the treatment and its impact on the nutritional status and quality of life of patients with obesity.
- to provide a motivational tool for the patient to engage them in their care and maximize outcomes
The devices developed by Aminogram thus allow for continuous, precise, and personalized monitoring—essential to ensure effective fat mass reduction while preserving patients health.
They are also used in prevention, as they enable early identification of individuals at risk.
