    Toward Clinically Feasible Assessment of Muscle Mass: Validation of a Seated Bioelectrical Impedance Device Against Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) in Older Adults

    Validation study of the seated Biody Xpert ZM 3 bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) device compared to DXA (Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry) for measuring appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASMM) in older adults. The study evaluated two predictive equations (Kyle and Sergi) and examined associations between phase angle (PhA) and physical performance. Results demonstrate that the population-specific Sergi equation offers superior accuracy, with higher concordance and lower systematic bias than the Kyle equation, while PhA positively correlates with handgrip strength.
    → Supports seated BIA as a practical, clinically acceptable alternative to DXA for routine muscle mass and quality assessment in geriatric populations.
